The original intent was to reduce rate of fire in full-auto M16s. The XH buffer weighs nearly three times as much as a standard AR15 carbine buffer so it dramatically decreases the rate of fire, while maintaining reliability. My customers with suppressed weapons love this buffer.
Helps reduce felt recoil for the the 'Big-Bore' calibers. Very effective with 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, .450 Bushmaster, .458 SOCOM, and .50 Beowulf. Can also be used with 9mm, .45 ACP, .40 S&W or 10mm.
We recommend Wolff XP buffer springs for maximum reliability. OEM springs and lesser aftermarket springs (including Sprinco ROYGBIV) may cause malfunctions. 'Flat-Wire' springs are not recommended for any application.
This buffer is ideal if any of the following conditions apply:
- If you will be shooting with a suppressor. (Your gun will still run fine unsuppressed with standard ammunition.)
- If you will be shooting hot hand loads or very heavy bullets.
- If you want maximum recoil reduction.

This is the BEST buffer/spring combo if you have an extended (7⅝" deep) receiver extension on your large-frame AR, like a VLTOR A5 tube/clone or a Magpul UBR Gen2 stock. Most better .308 rifles come from the factory in this configuration - LMT, S&W, LaRue, POF, etc. Absolutely the most reliable setup for any AR-10 with a carbine/collapsable stock.
If you have any doubt, please measure your current buffer and check the inside depth of your buffer tube.
These products are a drop-in upgrade if you have 3¼" long buffer and your tube is 7⅝" deep.
Please note that all .308 rifle buffer springs are not created equal. We strongly encourage using the ArmaLite #EA1095 buffer spring listed here. Using other buffer springs is very likely to cause reliability issues. We do not recommend using flat-wire springs for any application.

Note: We cannot guarantee proper function with subsonic ammo. There are significant differences in specifications among the various brands of ammo and firearms manufacturers.
