Anti-Tilt Piston Buffers

Note: The buffers on this page are designed to fit bolt carriers with a 1/2" nominal inside diameter. This includes some ARES Defense, LMT, PWS, and a few other .223 systems. (Standard carriers have 5/8" nominal inside diameter.) PLEASE VERIFY BEFORE ORDERING.

This is the original Anti-Tilt buffer, designed to prevent excessive wear to the receiver extension (buffer tube) caused by bolt carrier tilt/cant in the popular piston-driven ARs. The elongated head of the buffer is centered in the bolt carrier by the 'nipple'. This completely prevents contact between the bolt carrier and the buffer tube.

Tested and proven with Adams Arms, Ares Defense, CMMG, HK, LMT, LWRC, Osprey Defense, POF, PWS, Rock River, Ruger, Sig, Stag Arms, and many others.
Also works great in the Taiwanese Type 91 & Wolf T91 uppers.

These buffers are constructed from 303 Stainless Steel for a lifetime of trouble-free performance. None of our Heavy Buffers have messy powders or fluids inside that will eventually leak (they always do) and muck up your gun's internals.

Reciprocating weights inside provide a "Dead-Blow" effect that helps prevent bolt-bounce. Total mass can vary from 4.0 ounces up to 8.5 ounces.

Also available for AR-15 rifles and for .308 piston guns in rifle and carbine sizes.

These buffers are made to order. Please allow an extra 7 days for production.

We recommend an H3 (5.5 ounce) buffer for most applications with the following exceptions:

  • If you shoot underpowered/import/surplus ammo an H or H2 might be a better choice.
  • If you are running a suppressor the XH buffer (8.5 oz)  is the best choice.

We strongly recommend using Wolff XP buffer springs for maximum reliability. OEM springs and lesser aftermarket springs (including Sprinco ROYGBIV) may cause malfunctions. Flat-Wire springs are not recommended for any application.

This kit includes a Wolff XP carbine buffer spring, an empty buffer body and various internal weights to allow 'tuning' the buffer to your specific firearm/ammo. Total weight can be adjusted from 4.0 to 6.25 ounces, or up to 8.5 ounces with the optional Tungsten inserts sold below.

Takedown procedure with an Anti-Tilt buffer installed is as follows:

  • Push out both pins.
  • Slide the upper receiver forward slightly.
  • Lift it away from the lower receiver.
    •


Note: We cannot guarantee proper function with subsonic ammo. There are significant differences in specifications among the various brands of ammo and firearms manufacturers. Some guns will run great with almost any ammo, other guns may not function reliably with any subsonics. This is all beyond our control.
